Guneemooroo Olive Grove & Vineyard

Guneemooroo Olive Grove and Vineyard is located in a little valley surrounded by rolling hills. There are five acres of vines and three and a half thousand olive trees located on around 120 acres. The property is drip irrigated. There are seven dams stocked with yabbies and fish.

We are 20 minutes or 23 kilometres south of Mudgee off the Hill End Road. Turn left after 20 kilometres and we are 3 kilometres down Old Grattai Road, a well formed dirt road, which was once the Cobb & Co route to Hill End.

The House on the Hill is a free standing guest cottage built in 2009. It is located 75 metres from the main house which is screened by trees. Standing high above the valley it offers panoramic views. The property abounds with kangaroos which are easily observed from the guest accommodation and indeed from most other parts of the property. Birds are a feature and we have some resident echidnas.

Guneemooroo is located on part of the old Grattai gold field which ran either side of the Grattai Creek for 10 kilometres toward Hill End. There were over 20,000 miners in the area at the height of the rush in the 1850’s. Diggings on public land close by can be accessed.

There is some evidence of aboriginal culture, but sadly not a lot. Guneemooroo means resting place of the wild duck in the local Wiradjeri language.

There are some attractive and challenging walks.

We produce a very drinkable Cabernet and Extra Virgin olive oil which can be purchased on site. The olive oil is $12.00 per 500ml bottle r $120 per case plus freight. And the Cabernet is $13.50 a bottle, or $160 per case plus freight.

Guests are encouraged to pick olives in season, normally late April and May.

Hill End to the south and Gulgong to the north are 40 minutes from Guneemooroo. Both owe their existence to the Gold Rush.

The House on the Hill rents for $ 150 a night for a couple and $200 for 3 or more guests, it is non-smoking and fully equipped. There are 3 bedrooms, two queen beds and the other has two single beds. The living area is open plan. However, the cottage is not suitable for children. No pets.
